Students Take Inspiration From Influential Women on International Women's Day
March 19, 2019
365体育足球官网On Friday, March 8th, students in the Center for Early Childhood and Lower School recognized International Women's Day by learning about and reflecting on women's achievements in history and around the world today. Early Childhood Spanish and Mandarin classes focused on an important woman in the history or legend for each culture, with a lesson on Frida Kahlo in Spanish and on Mulan in Mandarin that included reading and reflecting on stories of their lives and creating art projects that represented their history. In the Lower School, students read about, discussed and reflected on influential women. They studied past and present women scientists, artists, social activists and athletes with activities including reading Malala's Magic Pencil, an autobiographical story by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, watching a preview of the first all-women spacewalk off of the International Space Station, which will take place on March 29, and writing poetry to and about significant women in their own lives. Across the entire Léman community, we'd like to take this opportunity to celebrate the diverse and strong women who contribute to Léman and inspire our students to be open-minded, principled and balanced.
